Deployment of enabling technology systems and services to deliver the strategic vision can be a complex and time-consuming undertaking. Taking the organisation from their current ‘as-is’ state to the envisioned strategic digital state is typically best achieved as a number of phased stages of implementation and delivery across a period of time. Those phased stages of work are set out as a roadmap of activities and deliverables, covering technical, operational and governance aspects of the IT organisation, as well as aligning with and linking into the broader organisational strategy and objectives.
Development of a roadmap is typically informed by the findings and recommendations arising from a technology audit and assessment. The roadmap can be defined at a higher level, as input to realisation of a digital strategy, or at a more detailed level, to inform development of operational, organisational, governance and technical deliverables and outcomes.
