Establishing a baseline view of the existing technology environment provides a foundation upon which to plan and deliver the Initiatives required to achieve the strategic vision. Undertaking a technology audit and assessment provides the organisation with an up to date view of the existing technology systems and services environment and can be used to inform investment and improvement decisions.
Assessments can be conducted at different levels of detail and varying duration, from a few days to a few weeks, depending upon the business requirement and the purpose of the review. Output from the assessment is usually in the form of a high-level narrative and scoring across a number of different aspects of technology and governance, together with a suggested target strategic score for each technology aspect. An accompanying series of recommendations outlines how to bridge the gap between as-is and strategic scoring for each of the areas assessed, which can in turn feed into development of the strategic roadmap.
